I didn't know Barbara really well, but we were in the "notorious" cooking class that nearly drove Mrs. Dixon into the loony bin! In those days we were assigned to "kitchens" in groups of three. I was with Georgia Cogswell and Debby Mathews. It was a LOT of laughs I can tell you,( but only for us.) I still have a recipe folder that we were made to collect as we cooked the delights within. Barbara was in a "kitchen" with two others, ( Kathy Inwood? Jo de Cotiis? Maria Luciano?) and all three of them were equally competent! They NEVER got anything wrong, theirs looked and tasted good, they cleaned up the kitchen fast ( not so "us"- we were laughing too hard!) and generally were the only three to keep Mrs. Dixon sane. I can still hear her saying,"Very nice job BARBARA". I was envious of her obvious skill and practice ( "cooking" was a completely foreign concept for me) and she was always so unassuming about it, as if real people cooked something every day!  Imagine that! She was very sweet, softspoken, but had a sense of humor, (I think she was kind of wishing she was with Georgia and Debby and me- hah, NO WAY) and was one of a group of hard working classmates that had actual paid jobs ( making money instead of playing Field Hockey? Who knew that was an option?) after school in town. I can remember them all walking down South Avenue together with their "big hair"- that stayed where they put it- (I was envious of that too...) and seeming light years more sophisticated than I felt.
